By 6:50pm, boarding was announced, but since we had an almost full flight, I sat down at my seat just shortly after 7:15pm.This was my first time on the Westjet transatlantic fleet of 767s. If it weren’t for that box, there would be no issue with legroom – I’m almost six feet tall (181cm).It’s been quite some time since I flew WestJet and I had honestly forgotten about their inflight entertainment system. After a couple more hours of sleep, we had our last beverage and snack service before our morning approach to Gatwick.I had a stunning view of the islands as we were approaching the UK, and noticed the plane following the circular stack approach pattern down to Gatwick Airport. For people not putting a bag under the seat in front of them, this is no big deal. However, I always keep my larger backpack with me so I can access my laptop and charge my phone if needed (and also have access to many other things). Wow they are efficient! The flight took just under one and a half hours, followed by a smooth descent into Edmonton. The airline also has codeshare arrangements with more than a dozen other carriers. Prices were the expected inflight premium cost.My biggest issue with the flight was the IFE box ruining my already limited legroom and under-seat space.
However, for the amount you pay for these seats, I definitely have no complaints.
I find choosing between WestJet and That’s it for my review! Along with its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore, the airline flies to about 90 destinations. Subscribe to our FREE newsletter to receive updates whenever we release new trip reports! The cabin was a mix of old and new (new seats with old cabin bins). Kudos to Westjet on starting this service to Europe, since it gave me a lot more options when I was purchasing this fare. Review: GAruda Economy Class After flying to Toronto with Lufthansa, I booked a flight with WestJet onboard their 787 service to London. The check-in process with Westjet was smooth with plenty of self-check kiosks available. We bought a cheap one-way ticket from New York LaGuardia (LGA) to London Gatwick (LGW) via Toronto Pearson (YYZ) for $557.09, a very good deal for a true premium economy across the Atlantic. The cabin interiors were refurbished with new seats, galley, and lavatory equipment, while the cabin bins were still using the original 767 setup. The seats were decently padded and comfortable, but the legroom could definitely be a little bit better. For the first segment of the trip, we had a 12:30pm departure out of Vancouver, and a layover of five hours in Edmonton before catching the flight to London.
Me being surprised is probably more of an indication that I’ve been flying too much Ryanair and easyJet recently where nothing comes for free.In basic economy, passengers were served snacks and beverages twice. The airline also has codeshare arrangements with more than a dozen other carriers. Seating is plentiful, WiFi works, and there are clean restrooms throughout. At around 12pm, thirty minutes before the scheduled departure time, the final boarding call was already being announced, so we quickly hurried on board. But it was also accompanied by the threat that if there were an insufficient number of volunteers, it would potentially delay the flight. For passengers who want to earn SkyMiles, flights in premium economy on WestJet planes not booked on Delta.com earn 100% of miles flown as Delta Medallion Qualification Miles and 20% of miles … These include destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. We put the airfare on the Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns 5x points on airfare booked with the airline or Amex Travel, so we got 2,785 Membership Rewards points, worth about $56 at our current valuations— a nic… There are also charging stations and plenty of outlets around the seats to replenish your electronics, which is perfect for a long layover. Our departure was slightly delayed, due to the inbound flight arriving four hours late. I took a look out the window, and much to my surprise, I saw a faint, wavy white and silver streak across the night sky. And I just generally appreciate the overall vibe of the place: large windows letting in natural light with a calming bluish-green and wood nature theme.Prior to boarding, the gate agents made an announcement that they would need 10 volunteers to check their cabin bags. As this was a domestic flight, we arrived at the airport roughly two hours before departure for check-in. The cabin definitely shows its age – especially with the size of seatback screens. I managed to spot a variety of planes during the taxi, including Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and the new Cathay a350 along the way. Much like I found on my Turkish Airline short-haul business class review, WestJet Premium Economy blocks out the middle seat for extra comfort. This four and a half hour flight had its discomforts but there were also some pleasant surprises which made the flight more pleasant than expected.Getting on to the plane was straight forward. On the plus side, I found the seats to be comfortable enough and enjoyed the small complimentary food and beverage offering. We were then offered a meal service shortly after, with pre-purchased meals delivered first, followed by meals for purchase offered along the cabin.I decided to order the Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli dish ($9), since I knew I would be getting hungry later with five hours to go before arriving in London.
